Are you City & Guilds Qualified?
Yes, all of our tradesmen are City & Guilds Qualified. In addition, we've got a very experienced team, and John and Peter both have over 30 years experience each.
What areas do you cover?
In short, all over Copeland and West Cumbria. That said, we will consider larger projects all over Cumbria. For a full list of service areas see here.
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes, although optional we opted to have it for peace of mind. Our public liability insurance has coverage up to one million pounds.
My property is in a Whitehaven conservation area. Can I still get an extension?
Yes, absolutely. While properties in Whitehaven's designated conservation areas or listed buildings face stricter planning controls, extensions are very common. We work closely with the Cumberland Council planning team to ensure the design, brickwork, and roofing materials match the historic local character while still delivering the modern space you need.
Do you handle the planning permission process with Cumberland Council?
Yes. We deal with local building control and planning teams across Copeland and West Cumbria regularly. We can help guide you through the process, whether your extension falls under Permitted Development or requires a full planning application.
How do you ensure extensions in Whitehaven withstand coastal weather conditions?
West Cumbria sees its fair share of harsh weather and coastal winds. We source premium, durable materials designed to weather the Irish Sea elements. This includes using high-grade treated timber frames, weather-resistant insulation, marine-grade hardware for bi-fold doors if required, and traditional slate or advanced flat-roofing systems that won't fail during heavy Cumbrian downpours.
My garden is heavily sloped. Can Acton & Fox still build an extension?
Definitely. Many properties in hilly areas of Whitehaven require creative terracing or retaining walls to make an extension work. Our team has over 30 years of experience managing complex layouts, deep foundations, and structural groundworks to safely maximize your space.
Can I see examples of extensions you’ve completed nearby in West Cumbria?
Yes! We’ve been transforming homes in the local community for over a decade. You can view our local work directly on our website, including our two-storey extension at Mountain View and our single-storey extension on Rannerdale Drive. Alternatively, we can provide local references upon request.
